Blue and Green
The flood on the Duver

Blue sky, green marsh, green sedge,
a gentle sea breeze,
blue water reflecting the clear sky.
this is where the flood has come today
it flows where it can go,
to dips and dimples,
descents and declines,
wending its way through green of scrub.
a tree stands, its upright poise
against flat terrain
of the marsh
and new made lakes and pools.
this is where the flood has come today.
green of hedge in the distance
marks the rise and fall of skyline,
gently sculptured hills behind.
the water writhed its way through grasses,
and now dormant, calm and still,
shapes its form and cedes to nature's will
pattern and shade meet the human eye
through iris, pupil, retina,
making their lightning way
to brain, to mind, to memory.
This is where the flood has come today
