Staycation

George Stevenson got us on the train,
Henry Ford in the motor car,
the Wright brothers flew an aeroplane
for those who'd venture near and far,
to widen our world.
Now we fly above the clouds
and seek for warmer climes,
know new sights and tastes and tongues,
enriching lives with foods and wines
unknown at home.
But saving energy and effort,
here's a thought that may seem new:
when on peregrinations, take the
micro, not the macro view,
roaming closer,
for if I lived somewhere abroad
I'd be drawn the other way,
to visit our own cities here,
exploring, while I stay, our flowing
hills and vistas,
so here would venture not too far
and notice nature's tapestry,
finding nourishment enough
in looking round me mindfully for
appreciated beauty,
devoting sight nearby to where
fate has brought me.
