Tabula Rasa

Sperm and egg, foetus, baby,
our way to crossing life's wide ocean,
fresh from birth when all is new,
life yet unsullied, mind untainted,
learning to think and feel emotion.
Nature's guidance brings progression,
unfolding growth, advance and movement,
and in those first few forming years
the groundwork of our lives is laid
as ever evolving, seeking improvement.
The treble that soared high as a bird
becomes the deep and solemn bass,
childish things are put aside,
and though deep shadows seem to fall,
plans for future life take place,
hope and light seek to prevail,
we find new vision in each day,
so may our exertions be thankful,
our seeing a marvel, our hearing surprise,
our perceptions wise, our music illumination,
our feelings a revelation, our quest be for beauty,
our life be a bounty.
